Internet Association Announces Leadership Changes, Michael Beckerman To Move In-House
Washington, DC — Internet Association President & CEO Michael Beckerman announced today his intention to depart from the organization on February 29 to lead policy and government relations internally at an internet company. Beckerman has served as IA’s President & CEO since its founding in 2012. IA, the unified voice of the internet economy, is the only trade association that exclusively represents leading global internet companies on matters of public policy.
“I am honored by the opportunity to represent the world’s leading internet companies over the past eight years, and I look forward to continuing to advance internet policy in my new role. I’m proud of the IA team and our ability to ensure public policy enables the continued growth of the internet sector in the U.S. and around the world,” said Michael Beckerman, President & CEO of Internet Association.
Under his leadership, IA membership grew into the preeminent trade association for the $2.1 trillion internet industry, from a founding group of 10 companies to over 40 members today. IA has six offices and advocates on the federal, state, local, and international levels.
Holly Windham, EVP, Chief Legal and People Officer of Rackspace and Internet Association Board Chair said, “the internet industry is grateful to Michael for his leadership of IA from startup, to scale up, to an established advocacy organization. Michael brings fresh thinking, a spirit of innovation, and incredible drive to his advocacy and pursuit of industry consensus. I will miss working with Michael in his capacity at IA, but look forward to working with him as a member of the internet community as he pursues new challenges.”
Fred Humphries, Corporate Vice President, U.S. Government Affairs at Microsoft and Internet Association Vice Chair said, “I commend Michael on his success building Internet Association into a respected and powerful voice for internet companies over the past eight years. What he and his team have been able to do at Internet Association is remarkable. While his presence will certainly be missed, IA’s leadership team has the full support of the board, and the association will continue to play a critical role advocating on behalf of our industry.”
Michael Beckerman will assist the IA Executive Committee and Board of Directors in their search for a new President & CEO. In the meantime, IA General Counsel Jon Berroya will serve as interim President & CEO effective March 1.
